On the Complexity of the Bernstein Combinatorial Problem

چکیده
Every multivariate polynomial p(x), x = (x1, . . . , xn) ∈ [0, 1], is enclosed in the interval given by the smallest and the greatest of its coefficients in the Tensorial Bernstein Basis (TBB). Knowing that the total number of these TBB coefficients is exponential with respect to the number of variables n, ∏n i=1(1 + di), even if all partial degrees di equal 1, a combinatorial problem arises: is it possible to compute in polynomial time the smallest and the greatest coefficients? This article proves that the 3-SAT problem, known to be NP-complete, polynomially reduces to the above defined combinatorial problem, which let us consequently conclude that this problem is NP-hard.

Numerical resolution of large deflections in cantilever beams by Bernstein spectral method and a convolution quadrature.
The mathematical modeling of the large deflections for the cantilever beams leads to a nonlinear differential equation with the mixed boundary conditions. The first is based on a spectral method utiliz...

In this work, the nonlinear boundary value problem in electrohydrodynamics flow of a fluid in an ion-drag configuration in a circular cylindrical conduit is studied numerically. An effective collocation method, which is based on orthonormal Bernstein polynomials is employed to simulate the solution of this model. Some properties of orthonormal Bernstein polynomials are introduced and utilized t...
متن کاملAn algorithm for multi-objective job shop scheduling problem
Scheduling for job shop is very important in both fields of production management and combinatorial op-timization. However, it is quite difficult to achieve an optimal solution to this problem with traditional opti-mization approaches owing to the high computational complexity. The combination of several optimization criteria induces additional complexity and new problems. In this paper, we pro...

In this paper, we present a numerical method based on Bernstein polynomials to solve optimal control systems with constant and pantograph delays. Constant or pantograph delays may appear in state-control or both. We derive delay operational matrix and pantograph operational matrix for Bernstein polynomials then, these are utilized to reduce the solution of optimal control with constant...
متن کاملThe Combinatorial Multi-Mode Resource Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem
This paper presents the formulation and solution of the Combinatorial Multi-Mode Resource Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem. The focus of the proposed method is not on finding a single optimal solution, instead on presenting multiple feasible solutions, with cost and duration information to the project manager. The motivation for developing such an approach is due in part to practica...
